Turn
around the note
As a Unicode character — to paste into text, spreadsheets or chat. Whether it appears depends on the font.
In the score
What it means
A sideways S above the note: upper neighbour, main note, lower neighbour, main note. When the sign sits between two notes, the turn starts later.
Ornaments
Four notes around the written one: the neighbour above, the main note, the neighbour below, the main note. Placed over the note, the turn starts at once; placed after it, the note sounds first and the turn comes at the end.
