Dal segno (D.S.)

As a Unicode character — to paste into text, spreadsheets or chat. Whether it appears depends on the font.
In the score
What it means
Back to the segno, not to the beginning. With al Coda you then jump from the marked bar into the closing section.
Repeat signs
Dal Segno al Fine sends you not to the beginning but to the sign somewhere inside the piece. From there you play once more until Fine is reached. That saves the opening when it is meant to happen only once.
